A Heritage Centre with a difference; centring round the writings
of Neil Gunn (who was born in Dunbeath) this centre explores a community's
sense of identity as defined by its relationship to the land. The
Floor Map was commissioned to cover the entire floor surface of
the main exhibition area. It depicts a narrative map of Dunbeath
Water as it is appears in Neil Gunn’s novel 'Highland River'. The
map leads to the river source which is marked by a bench feature
specially commissioned from the Workshop of Tim Stead. It can be
seen as a model for anecdotal mapping of any area by a local community.
