A New Sundial for Strathallan School

October 10, 2014 | Categories:

This new addition to my sundial portfolio was commissioned by Strathallan School in Perthshire to commemorate their centenary. The Sundial was commissioned earlier this year and its installation in early October gave rise to much interest and many favourable comments from staff and pupils. Standing 1.2 metres high it takes the form of a Millstone decorated with leaves. The front features a vertical sundial with a bronze gnomon and inset bronze hour markers. The centre is infilled with etched glass bearing the school motto and the significant centenary dates. This etching echoes a disc set in the ground behind the sundial which marks the position of a time capsule buried on the School Founder’s Day earlier this summer.
