Inspiring Travel and an exciting new Commission for the New Year

January 23, 2013 | Categories:

Three weeks of sensory overload in India over Christmas and the New Year sent me home bursting with visual inspiration, and, after a fairly quiet autumn, to a very welcome and exciting new commission. As a result of a competitive pitch Chalk Works was awarded the commission for a sculpture of St. Cuthbert to take a central role in Studio MB's exhibition design to present the Lindisfarne Gospels for Durham University.

To celebrate their return to the land of their origin, on loan for three months from The British Library, Durham University has commissioned the Edinburgh based design company Studio MB to design the exhibition, and as a major feature of the exhibition, have commissioned this sculpture of St. Cuthbert. It is very exciting to be associated with this celebrated early mediaeval illuminated manuscript. The commission has huge creative potential and the plan is for the resulting sculpture to find a permanent home in Durham Cathedral after the exhibition finishes.

The exhibition will run from July till September 2013.
